Class History: 267 Flower Class Corvettes were built during WWII. They were based on British whaling ship hulls and used to escort convoys across the Atlantic and sink attacking U-boats. Mostly, the Royal Navy and Royal Canadian Navy used the Flower Class but some ships were transfered to the U.S. Navy.

Ship History: The Clematis rescued 17 survivors from a British merchant ship that was sunk by U-100 on August 29, 1940. On October 23 the same year, she rescued 1 survivor from the merchant ship Fiscus that was torpedoed 5 days earlier by U-99. That same day, she picked up 21 survivors from a Norwegian merchant ship that was torpedoed on the 19th.
